They realize that their plans failed and they can’t keep up the charade for four more years. They will accept fate and bend the knee.

Merit pay would be welcome - teacher here. Bunch of shit teachers who make more than the obvious best teachers. Hard to fire incompetent teachers. Uneven distribution of students per teacher due to skills like class management. Best teachers get the worst behaved students and the largest class sizes, but not benefit. Parents request to NOT have one teacher and all want another, but the good teacher gets nothing extra.
This makes the best teachers quit for better careers with more advancement while the worst stay around doing minimum effort
How about fuck you for generalizing and buying into the stereotype of men not being capable of nurturing young people.
How about applaud the men who go into education and make a difference. When I taught 6th grade, I was often times the FIRST male in some of their lives to ever take an interest in them and help shape how they behave and think. Male influences are important and calling people like me a paedo for working in education is moronic and insulting.
Not in my classroom!
He also said “I just want black sovereignty. By any means necessary.” Dude is very bold with his statements and definitely sounds like he wants a war...
I don’t like being labeled racist for having dissenting political views. Many others agreed with me, but the mods said they would ban anyone who responded with All Lives Matter.
I teach US history in middle school. We analyzed primary sources of letters from Lee to his wife about how he believed god would end slavery because Christianity didn’t align with it. He said he did not think forcing the issue at the time was good because abrupt change would sever the country. He was the best military mind in the country and happened to side with the south when forced to choose.
He surrendered due to obvious ammunition, soldier and railroad resource deficits on top of Grant/Sherman destroying/burning anyone or anything in his path to his South (which we debated whether Sherman was justified in class — About a 50/50 split and it went well. Kids were arguing that it set many innocent southerners, including AA, back for decades while most wealthy plantations were unharmed or recovered quickly, and others argued that it ended the war quicker). Lee was respected on both sides before and after the war. The only criticisms were that the war became about slavery and he ended up on the wrong side of history whether his own opinions on slavery mattered or not.
They are retiring and taking their pensions to new states with lower tax brackets too. North and South Carolina and Florida seem to be their main destinations. NC has a massive population from NJ and NY, could just be me though since I live near the coast and that’s where they all want to live.
Thanks for putting this out there. Pearson is not good.
Just got my largest downvote ever for a very neutral comment about him answering her question previously and it sounded to me like she was fishing for a juicy soundbite.
Teacher here: if there was disparity among families that did and did not value education and hard work before the shutdown, this has amplified it 1000x.
My poorest, worst behaved, and worst work ethic students are completely nonexistent now even with the offer of free internet services, supplied devices, and almost 24-7 availability of their assignments and help from teachers online.
My favorites (don’t be stupid thinking we like them all the same) worked hard before we shut down and nothing has changed other than we have to move a little slower. They complete everything on time, attend our live chat sessions, ask questions when they need help. Most of these kids are poor too, but their parents (or often grandparents) make them do their damn work because they know failing is going to keep them in that same cycle of poverty.
If students aren’t at school, most will be getting their education from TikTok, reddit, Twitter, rap radio stations, YouTube comments, and video games. Even the few shitty leftist coworkers I know teach better than 99% of any stay at home parent will, and there are wayyyyy more republican and libertarian teachers than you think.
Teacher here. In a purple state, but red district so we have a lot of “homeschool” kids who unenrolled due to protest. They inevitably enroll again after a year or two when parents want free childcare again, but from personal observation those students have made zero progress while their peers pass them in every sense of academics. The average parent is NOT equipped to teach their own child and most children don’t have the self motivation to do an online program without rigid structure.
Everyone wants to think you will be the outlier for homeschooling your kids, and that you can probably do better since you went to school for so many years and can do the work yourself. In reality, explaining/teaching is not as easy as doing the work yourself. Getting younger children into routines for something like a private online program is very difficult and they are probably watered down to keep their customers paying.
The top performers in my area may be homeschooled, I can think of a core group of kids who crush everyone at science competitions each year, but they have private tutors they bring in which costs a lot of $. Most parents who unenroll their kid don’t have the time or resources required to provide an adequate education at home for their child and it amounts to neglect when they return to public schools years later performing at multiple grade levels Lower than their peers.
As a teacher fighting the good fight, don’t die on the homeschool hill. Fight for education reform and encourage more pedes to go into education.
