It's interesting, but not really equivalent to today's military- at least in the US. New privates get paid about $600 every 2 weeks, BUT they don't pay for initial issue uniforms (and get a yearly clothing allowance,) gear, housing (if single in the barracks,) electricity, food, medical, or dental. The only reccurring bills a new soldier has is a cell phone bill, cable/internet, and car /insurance if they have one.
Take up marksmanship. Learn to skin and clean game. Teach yourself basic bushcraft and first aid - you don't have to go full prepper, but basic survival skills can be lifesaving, build confidence, and is a good way to get in touch with your inner caveman.
For some reason this reminded me of a quote from the old Diablo 1 manual (back when Blizzard wasn't full of cucks and cared about games.)
Rend me with steel, pierce me with claw and fang - as I die, a legend is born for another generation to follow
I also suggest listening to Patrick Henry's "Give members or give me death speach," as well as John Wards updated version of it.
