This offsets the brain drain of those poor countries losing skilled people.
However this totally ignores the hidden cost of immigration and deleterious effect it has on native born citizens in terms of lost jobs, increased crime, increased dependence on government aid. So essentially most immigrants, being low-skilled and relying on government assistance (welfare) are subsidized by the native born Middle/working class taxpayer whose own community goes down the tubes and they end up on welfare themselves.
Lefties act like these remittances are voluntary, when in fact we, the middle class are being fleeced against our will. And these poor nations are generally not rising up out of poverty, because they have no way to do that. If they are, it is because U.S. companies are outsourcing cheap manufacturing labor, compounding the damage to our own economy. Our money is just falling into a black hole and bringing our own country down, while global poverty continues to rise.
