CNN: "YOU'RE HIRED!"

It is my understanding that she didn't have any special access to the hearings and got in the same way any member of the public can.

Lol...that was Elizabeth Montgomery and yes she was hot.

Well she's probably a Bernie fan.

The idea of a tiger getting it makes no biological sense. The leap from species to species takes a lot more than casual contact, and in any event whatever virus ends up in the tiger is a new virus specific to tigers.

I mean, it's not like you can give your dog a cold, and that works the same way (coronavirus and rhinovirus).

It's more likely a false positive, or even possibly the animal had viral particles in its body but wasn't actually infected by it, in which case it would be like saying a door knob tested positive.

My understanding is that it alters pH in the blood stream (and thus cells) and that these coronaviruses are pretty sensitive to pH. It also enhances zinc uptake by cells, which inhibits the mechanism by which the virus takes over a cell, and slows down inflammatory response, reducing damage to tissues caused by the immune system.

I'm no expert, but considering the amount of published information explaining exactly why it works from long before this current outbreak, I'd say anyone casting doubt on it as a useful treatment has an ulterior motive.

There's no such thing as "settled science", but the mechanisms of this particular drug come about as close as it gets, especially considering how many common drugs we use that still aren't as fully understood

I can't believe a skipper of one of our supercarriers, basically the best of the best among officers, would purposely skip over Pacific command like that. The Navy has a long history of firing captains during peace time over the smallest infractions, especially on the biggest ships. Any question of judgement and you're canned.

He had to know this would end his career. I don't understand it.

Well we can produce the actual drug here, but the primary ingredient comes from a tropical plant from South America. I believe it was the British who brought it to India where it grows well in some of their southern regions. I'm not sure there are too many areas of the US where you can grow enough Cinchona trees for it to be a meaningful supply.

So in this case, we do have to depend on importing the key ingredient at the very least.

AOC is a moron, but what is she supposed to do, travel into NYC when nobody is supposed to travel into NYC now?Why add one more person to the epicenter of this outbreak?

And even if she were competent, what can she do in NYC that she can't do in DC using telecommunication? There's plenty to criticize this bartender about, but her not being in NYC doesn't seem to be a valid one.

Once again, the media has unwittingly associated Trump with success.

The morons will never learn.

Yeah I'm former Navy and we joked about the Coasties all of the time, but I do really respect them. Kind of half military half law enforcement. Some of them have a super easy job, but many of them don't.

Wait, she was removed? By whom and from what?

I don't know about some tree in Venezuela having anything to do with this, but I do suspect this sudden "war against cartels" might just be a cover for getting Maduro. I also suspect it was long in the planning stages before the virus hit.

Yep, the majority of global shipping is flagged in Panama to get around all kinds of rules and regulations. Because of that, Panama has the largest fleet in the world.

As far as bailouts, that depends on where the actual company is based. Carnival is based out of Florida, so I am sure they want a piece of the pie, however by registering their vessels in Panama, they don't pay income taxes on the money they make with them. They also hire foreign workers and do most of the actual business side of things in other countries for tourists to spend their money.

So...they should be told to go pound sand. They aren't really adding anything to the US economy or to the treasury.

Think the elderly shop for food at Dollar Tree because they want to?

I mean, some do actually. I remember one of my grandmas used to shop at thrift stores and buy day old bread and buy things in bulk that would go bad before she used it all (like the giant ketchup that ended up fermenting lol). And she was LOADED between cash in the bank and in stocks. She just didn't want to actually spend any of it.

I think the initial response was warranted simply because we didn't know how bad this might be. China had a big hand in that obfuscation of the facts. At this point it seems clear that this Coronavirus is not nearly as bad as was feared and in no way meets any of the predictive models from early on.

That, along with the fact an effective drug combination has been identified, is enough to open things back up again. The problem is that everything wasn't shut down by the Federal government...it was state governments. And some of the most key states, economically and financially, are Democrat controlled. Their politicians have a vested political interest in keeping things shut down as long as possible.

So the President could declare an end to the national emergency and ask state Governors to lift restrictions, but many will not and will use that opportunity to lambast President Trump for "ignoring health experts" and try to score political points.

Generally speaking, such attacks on Trump don't work, and I suspect it wouldn't work now either as most people seem to no longer take this virus as seriously as they did initially. But I think the President wants to hold out just a little longer in hopes of reaching the down slope of this thing.

I have a feeling this won't go very far, unless the government wants to try and prove that citizens have no right to defend person and property.

The FBI as an organization is beyond defending at this point which is pretty clear, but I'd point out it isn't the so-called "rank and file " that submit FISA applications either.

The beef with the lower level bulk of the FBI isn't their actions, it is their inaction. It's a sore spot with me as I know some of them, all veterans even one who I served with. Good people the ones I know, but why the hell they don't do something I have no idea.

Oh they'll cuss Comey and his ilk in private but that's as far as it goes. Which is bs.

I would fully support UBI if it replaced all existing forms of welfare. It would cost less, it would be more useful for those who need it, while allowing them to get any work they can without losing their safety net, and most importantly it would completely remove any influence or control over people by the government.

But of course the whole purpose of welfare is having that control so it'll never happen.

Yeah Reddit has now gone back to just being a resource when looking up something for me, not a site I am on all day every day.

I don't know, I'd say their power to sensationalize is currently proving to be quite potent.

Ignore and 12,500 people die. Sensationalize and you can send millions into poverty.
