My head slammed the gutter so hard it caved in the helmet and made a very visible deep V indentation. Without the helmet it would have split my head open like a watermelon and i'd be dead right now. The bones all healed and i'm just as strong as i have ever been but rehab took several years for me to get back to strength. I rode for a little while more after that accident then sold the bike and haven't owned one since and i don't plan on owning one again as i know feel some 20 years later that I'm no where near as mentally agile and reflex ready as i was and i also want to eventually see grand kids.
