Back then we started working at 12 or younger so we could develop independence and maturity. As that became illegal things deteriorated. School is no substitute for real work

Those are not poor neighborhoods. They are areas where the police were not allowed to do their jobs

We are seeing the same thing in Salt Lake where the mayor asked police to stand down while rioters looted and destroyed businesses. The rest of the state is doing ok and my county that did not tolerate that is just fine.

My mom said you just had to be older, she did not really get into Wagner until she was in her 60's. I heard from another friend it has to be seen in Vienna where they make a huge spectacle with people riding in on horses. I am slightly Germanic through my mom's Swiss grandmother, but mostly other northern European.

Those pictures are so sad, she looks like the Epstein girls. In one on the middle right her body is pulling away while her face is flirting, really, really sick. Why anyone listens to these people who sell their souls for fame baffles me

I resemble that remark.

There is a lot to forget about that era, Carter was hell on earth.

I love to eat and am a real chow hound so if I did not eat the way I do I would be morbidly obese. As it is I pack about 10 to 15 pounds extra and life with it as I hate dieting. I dislike running, but like weights, Pilates and yoga

Yep, my son used to wallow and stopped listening to that stuff. Reading 12 Rules for Life did not hurt either.

I was not a member when I met my husband and I can vouch for a great sex life this past 32 years. Women have been fed a bunch of lies, we do not need to practice. I had a colorful past, but my husband has been straight up living his faith his whole life. He is a unicorn, good looking, chaste, and smart. If those Mormon girls had been smart had been smarter they would have snapped him up, but he was a nerdy engineer.

I have not done the research. That said I don't like the death penalty because I don't trust governments, not because I don't think scum deserve to die

Would 100% guarantee reelection. Executive action of some kind.

I wish I could remember when it was all getting posted fresh, but I think there was another case. I hate it when there are no links for deep dives, it feels like I looked it all up a long time ago.

I so agree, my mom taught me to be paranoid about this and my friends who were not got date raped. Very common. Maybe things have changed since I was young, but I doubt it. Born in '64

As a Mormon I can tell you to still be careful, some sneak around and misbehave and when they do they are even worse as they are busy trying to prove how not churchy they are. Adventists don't drink either and many other conservative denominations avoid alcohol. Also once I got out of a drinking environment I realized it was true for all ages that 15% of the people drink 85% of the alcohol

Incredible has different tastes from mine so I will go with the overlap as ones you are most likely to enjoy no matter what your tastes. Tales of Hoffman was my husband's gateway opera, totally classic and beautiful. Rossini I like as well, it will help you to enjoy old cartoons. I am not evolved enough to enjoy Wagner or Mozart, but anything Puccini I love. Old chestnuts like Carmen are popular for a reason. Orpheus was intense, loved it, very punk. Bach is amazing. Go see anything live and it will be 100 times better than recorded. All those symphonies are great, but if you can hear Beethoven on period instruments with period tuning it will be a transformative experience. Carmina Burana by Orff is amazing and I have never seen it live, was supposed to, but Covid happened. I am still sad.

Amen, I love opera, I have a season subscription. Puccini can do sad like no one. Orff is the punk of classical. I love intense music.

Yes, this, more than anything it is how the music makes you feel. Whether it motivates. I have always been very backwards in that happy music often makes me feel depressed, kind of depends on the music.

Funny, sad music cheers and motivates me. It was Dark Side of the Moon that really spurred me to action. "Hanging haunting quiet deperation is the English way.... 10 years have gone behind you, no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun" I vowed to myself that I would go out and grab life and change mine for the better and I did.

I agree with incogneato. Some of us also need to learn social norms explicitly as they are not natural to us, I am one of those and it has taken me years. Deeply caring about other people will also make you more attractive, it is a funny paradox. Also learn to love and accept yourself warts and all. Young college tends to be a difficult and self absorbed time of life. I went older so that helped. I am currently 56 and everything has gotten better over time, although I have moved a lot and making friends is always difficult, it takes time and effort

Agree, it is like a competition and if they don't have real issues they invent them
