I'm no psychiatrist, but I think it has something to do with the "white dad" thing. Black identity (by which I mean the liberal urban black culture that dominates the conversation right now) is inextricably tied up with fatherlessness. The fact that they were raised by a father, and a white father at that, had a family life of domestic fidelity and masculine duty modeled for them, and benefited from the love and protection that provides, makes them feel like their black identity is illegitimate, so they have to try extra hard to prove their blackness.
