Ok thanks for confirming what I thought was a weird study that didn't really prove anything. There are too many correlational studies that do this kind of post hoc analysis. I guess I'll sit tight for the unintentional experimental study that is about to play out in these "defund the police" cities.
Haha thanks for writing out the dialogue. That's actually really helpful, and I hope it goes exactly like that in person.
The authors said they controlled for the crime rates, which is why I got confused. How did they do that? I don't understand statistical modeling, so it's a struggle understanding these kinds of papers.
Wow, these are great resources.

It's become "believe science [that supports our point, ignore the rest]"
This is a great resource, thank you. Presenting more data to an anti-data believer might be difficult, but we'll see how this goes.
Well, rip. Any tips on how to find new friends in a liberal workplace in a liberal city?
And the evidence gently weeps.
Exactly. It’s all about the benchmark. Stats passed around by liberals focus on overall population, but the relevant population here is the one that interacts with police, so comparisons to race-specific crime rates, as a proxy, address the issue better.
Good catch. That’s useful to know.

The idea that everyone is the same from a medical standpoint is frightening. Discrimination, in terms of the very basic meaning of the word, is one of the pillars of science and medicine. But this ideology is taking over like an incessant virus. I recently read an article in the Brown alumni magazine that called for removing the idea of race from medical training.
I think that sums it up quite nicely.

The socio-cultural differences perspective is fascinating and important to account for on a scientific level. Yet, liberals would probably say it is racist to even consider that.
The Johnson et al. study linked in the article was one of the more unbiased studies I've seen in the field. It's scary that it was met with so much criticism from people who seemed eager to force read a black victomhood narrative.

I was in the corona red pill camp. I did a full 180 once I started noticing the hypocrisy in real time. Unfortunately, like you say, many of my friends have only become more entrenched in their views since the pandemic.
Oh man, let’s hope not many are true believers and simply misinformed (like I used to be).

No offense taken at all. It was a good point that really puts into perspective how this has been happening for a while.
True. I’d like to see a similar study done now.

No problem, I'm glad you found the op-ed useful. It's a perspective we aren't hearing enough of.
