If I could remake elections, I think Federal laws mandating the following:

1. Biometric Voter ID. You apply for it, and you get it at no cost to you. If you can't apply in person, a federal worker will go to you, prove our identity, take your prints, and then help you. If India can figure out Voter ID with a Billion people, we can make it work.

2. Voting in person on Election day, with few exceptions. Election day to be made a federal holiday. If you are an essential worker or can't take the day off, your must be given 2 hours at the start or end of your shift (as we do now) but for full pay. No early voting.

3. Absentee voting is limited to special circumstances (e.g., ACTUALLY indefinitely confined or deployed), and must be verified, recorded, and have the same biometric certification as voting in person. Thumb print on the envelope, and no ballot harvesting. The thumb print must match before the vote is counted.

4. In person voting must be done on machines that are open source, with the source code inspected by the parties before any updates are permitted.

5. The secrecy of the ballot is preserved by having each voter given an encryption key that allows them to check not only if their vote was counted, but counted accurately in accordance to their wishes. this prevents the government or anyone else from seeing who cast their ballot, but also gives the voter the power to verify and lodge a complaint in the case of potential fraud.

6. Each vote is recorded on a printout that identifies who the vote is for and an encrypted voter ID to be used in the case of a recount.

7. Open source machines use blockchain to securely transmit their votes to secure and open source canvasing machines.
