Facebook has 1.8 billion daily active users that they handle without issue. A DDOS attack would be incredibly difficult against them, and a manual one outright impossible.

I dunno if there's ever been a more on the nose statement demonstrating the difference between conservatives and progressives.

Life flourished yes, but almost none of it was life that's around today. Again, it isn't going to end all life on the planet. It is going to end many species that cannot adapt to live in an environment significantly warmer and more extreme than they're used to.

Not only that, but as it continues to accelerate and we see these large environmental shifts, human civilization is going to have to adapt. That's going to be expensive, extremely expensive. We're going to have to reallocate food production to the new environments that can support it and somehow avoid famine as we do so, in addition to other challenges.

So life will flourish in whatever situation the earth finds itself in, but it isn't going to be super fun for the life that's along for the ride.

OP wanted a conversation and I provided one, and they're responding civilly. Happy to have a conversation with you if you have counterpoints to it and want to discuss.

Removing all of it is a bad idea, sure, but we can regulate it. I don't subscribe to the whole "climate change will end life on the planet", but it is absolutely going to severely impact life in general.

The problem is that it isn't a fraction of a millennia. Check out this chart for example, tracking how long it takes arctic ice to refreeze each year. We're looking at increasing refreeze rates on a timescale of decades, not millennia. https://www.highnorthnews.com/sites/default/files/styles/media_image/public/2020-10/Collages6.jpg

We annually record higher average temperatures than previously, it's an indisputable fact. We're rapidly approaching a point where arctic ice doesn't refreeze. We already lost North America's last intact arctic ice shelf (Milne Ice Shelf) last year when it collapsed due to melting.

So yes, climate changes if we're here or not, but it's also changing because we're here. If not us, then there has to be something that's inducing these significant increases and we haven't figured out anything else it could be and I've not heard any decent arguments against these things.

The fact that the planet does absolutely fluctuate temperatures across large timescales. What we're doing isn't causing climate change and rising temperatures, it's accelerating it increasingly faster than it would happen naturally.

The concern comes from the lack of time we're going to have to deal with this accelerated warming, and a difficulty of understanding whether or not the planet's ecosystems will be able to balance out on a much shorter timescale than what's occurred in the past.

Fine, I'll bite. Humans are responsible for accelerating the warming of the planet and inducing climate change across its regions. This change results in extreme weather, not only severe droughts and wildfires, but also larger hurricanes, wetter monsoons, and yes sharper cold snaps in winter. This is because our planet is a complex interaction of different systems, not just a knob that goes from 'cold' to 'hot'.

Not even them specifically, how many times have you seen comments about "the only good commie is a dead commie" and "is it time for the ammo box yet?", if you take comments around here at face value then the right is just itching for an excuse to start shooting up the left.

Luckily it amounts to the same here that it does on the left, just more yelling at the sky.

This, exactly. We have hundreds of these windmills in ND where it regularly gets to and stays well below 0, along with snow that shows up in October/November and doesn't leave until at least March.

Texas didn't want to pay the money to winterize their shit. On top of that, the primary failure is in the natural gas lines not winterized and losing pressure. Texas has a huge reliance on natural gas.

Both sides are politicizing this disaster and it's honestly despicable from everyone.

In a way it's anti-democracy, if the people want to keep electing someone then why go against their will and prevent them from doing so?

On the other hand people have repeatedly shown they're dumb as hell and don't even pay attention to who they're voting for and why, so sure. I'm down.

This. Equipment built for a consistent environment fails during extreme abnormal weather, who knew.

But that doesn't make for a fun quip to attack the other side.

This is a take I can agree with.

This is actually an interesting article about the difference between the two names. https://www.forbes.com/sites/marshallshepherd/2018/04/13/climate-change-or-global-warming-three-reasons-not-to-be-distracted-by-the-name-game/?sh=3fbf190e5088

Ultimately though they're different, global warming is a part of climate change but refers specifically to the increase in Earth's temperature.

Also you can disagree with the manmade effects (where the root of the argument between left and right lies) but global warming is a factual that is occurring, we literally record temperatures around the world every year and they are increasing year after year. Doesn't mean we suddenly won't have snow one year.

Bruh what the fuck. We can have smaller government and less power over people from the state without reverting 1920s bullshit like this.

The women submit to their man

This kinda stuff is why I can't take you guys seriously half the time.

I mean, it's amusing at a glance but one turbine at 1/3 operational capacity can power almost 500 homes. Jet fuel would have a hard time keeping up with that.

Well, they are working on pushing through Biden's package for 1400 checks. I am curious what happened to the 2,000 number though.

As one of the few here who don't hate trans people, I'd be ok with this solution as well. Sports has always been a really iffy one even for us allies.

Also the bathroom debate isn't that easy once someone fully transitions. Would you want this guy, born female in the women's bathroom?

This is why I'm on favor of unisex bathrooms that are all single stall. More space taken up but at least everyone can shut the fuck up about it.

That's kind of thr irony of these posts. "This will happen if we go to $15 minimum wage"

Posts a picture of something already happening

Honestly we need either a minimum wage dictated by local cost of living or one that increases with age. A flat minimum works ok but not great at all

I bet the patriots who were actually there and in the capitol trying to support Trump love being called Antifa all the time now.

Seriously though, leash your damn dog. I don't give a damn if you shout it's friendly as it's barreling towards me and my dog, it will get a swift kick.

People seem to think they're invincible on this site, I don't get it. Like a while back when a user got a visit from the FBI.

"But how did they know who he was if the mods didn't tell them??"

Amazing, a government agency with more funding than you'll see money in your life can find you if they want to. How is this a surprise.

Shh, that's hate speech around here. Obviously hundreds of thousands of people are not only conspiring against America and white people, but also absolutely amazing at keeping their massive organization a secret.
