Extended family, friends, church, homeschool groups can cover this latter item quite well - in fact, it has been shown that children develop intellectually and socially MUCH better when involved in multi-age groups than with single-age groups. This is one reason the one-room schoolhouses were better for our kids than the current industrial "humanist" setup.

Homeschooling is not only possible for all, it is necessary for most. Even private schools are not our friends. Had a colleague who was very proud of her kid going to a highly-ranked charter language-immersion school, who became fluent in the spanish language - but turned out a complete commie.
