Short barreled rifles require extra registration and a tax stamp. The way around that is making rifle caliber "pistols" which don't have a stock and have short barrels. The stock makes it illegal. But... Pistol bracer doesn't make it illegal. So you can't put a stock on a 10" 556 but you can put a bracer on it
