While I see a lot of talk about socialism and the loss of our rights, remember also that President Trump has demanded that states step up and do their part of the job. He hasn't tried to usurp their rights (Hillary would've taken over the states, basically). In fact, the states complained at first the Federal Government wasn't doing their job for them, and Donald Trump had to remind them of their duties. The states are now all vigorously engaged and involved, and I bet revitalized.
Also, you'll notice that these restrictions (stay home, business closings, etc.) are coming at the state level, not the Federal Level. Thus most of this (hopefully short-term) new-found power is coming (rightfully) from the states. We (the people) have much more control over the states, and they are much more likely to be forced to give up their powers after this calms down.
Yes, a lot of Trump's actions appear somewhat socialistic. Desperate times require drastic action. But Trump is doing it the right way, by not trampling states rights, and in fact, demanding that the states step up and be a player. Once again, I think Donald Trump was way ahead of us on this issue.
To hell with the FDA. If they want to run more tests fine, but this appears to be a well-known drug with life-saving properties. Everyone hospitalized with the Chinese flu should be getting it.
If the FDA balks, Trump should use his war powers to commandeer the hospitals, and have a military doctor prescribe the Chloroquine to each Chinese flu patient. Its too important of a miracle drug to wait for the FDA.
Let’s go around the FDA and use Trump’s war powers to get the life-saving powers of Chloroquine to the patients who need it!
Can you imagine? For all damage done by creating the sham impeachment trial distraction as the Coronavirus was taking hold, can you imagine what a catastrophe it would have been if the democrats had gotten their way and been allowed to call witnesses? That would have gone on for a month or more, and Trump would have been that much further behind in his response. Thank goodness the republicans shut it down when they did.
We’ll bounce back soon enough after this blows over. It’s looking more and more like it’s really not as bad as they feared anyway. We would be headed for a depression right now had Hillary been President. This would have been the “last domino to drop”. With our Trump economy it’s the “first domino to drop”. It’ll ding us, but we’ll come out OK.
