I just looked at my ecobee run time. Feb 2020. Average temp 38F Runtime 112 hours
Feb 2021 average temp 20F Runtime 138 Hours.
My gas bill last Feb was $88 so I would guess it's going to be around $150 this year. $40 of it is service charges and taxes. The actual fuel cost is usually like $40-$50
53% percent of the Texas grid is natural gas. Natural gas is very very expensive right now so instead of Increasing the production at these plants they shut them off. Utilities are regulated and usually they charge us more than they pay for the supply. It's opposite right now. If they ramped up the natural gas plants. It would cost them more than what they can recoup from the end users.
Missouri is still 90% reliant on coal for generation and they had blackouts all across the state. Oklahoma is 90% windmill turbines and they had less blackouts than Texas. Illinois is like 75% nuclear and everyone enjoyed their cheap elextricity while keeping the house at 80F
I've got the ring doorbell. Interesting enough, even under Trump my oil and alternate energy stock went up. Now my oil stock is leveling off and alternate energy is going down.
