I'm a hard core right wing conservative through and through. But even above any lofty conceptual ideas I care about my family, friends and countrymen more than anything. I am here to tell you Trump and the GOP will likely lose the election this year, and I can't blame voters who dump him or vote against him.
- Trump playing down the coronavirus, with half hearted responses such as a flimsy and fake chinese "travel ban" (which still allowed people from china to come here), an extremely delayed travel ban for the EU and a total lack of a travel ban for other countries caused this to happen. Trump is not entirely at fault, but the buck stops with him. His "like a miracle" speech will be his "mission accomplished". The "hoax" talk has been cemented in the public's mind. They think trump is a liar, incompetent, or cares more about stock prices than them. They might be right.
- The test kit nightmare will be pinned on him by the public, like it or not. It's his administration.
- The GOP's insistence on bailing out huge corporations that outsourced to China in the first place, and who will use the money for stock buybacks while laying off hardworking Americans is SICK. It's UNFORGIVABLE. If money is going out, strings should be attached, and the Americans with the most need should be getting more than a check that won't cover rent. Rent and mortgage forgiveness, massive unemployment benefits, these are things that voters want. Not a bailout for the cruise industry who helped cause this problem.
- Trump's real claim (because he hasn't succeeded strongly on immigration or outsourcing/trade or infrastructure, among others), was the economy. Well all of that is gone. This economic collapse is on him, and it will be as bad or worse than 1929. I don't know if it could have been avoided, I don't know how much is his/the gop's fault. But I know that this is what voters will remember in November.
He won't win. I don't even know if I can vote for him at this point. I saw this coming, people I know saw this coming, and we're just some shmucks. The landlords demanding rent from laid off tenants will give socialism all of the boost it needs. And if evicting jobless people in a pandemic and economic crisis is the best capitalism has to offer, it's nigh impossible to argue they aren't right. I expect to be b& for this post, because god forbid someone disagree with the approved position on this or any other site, but take this to heart. This is worse (politically) than most conservatives I know have seen.
