It's mostly the systematic snuffing any dissenting opinion right now that throws shade on the wall. We'll see as you say how complex the puppet show is with what may come out. Either way there's a whole multitude suckling away the approved narrative with voracious contempt for any alternative.
The origins of the X goes back to the greek "chi" the first letter of the Greek Christos which translates to Christ. I'm not about to tell you how to feel but I like the reminder of the Greek origins.
In these crazy times it reminds me of the early followers of Christ in the ancient times. When Christians met in public one would trace an arc in the ground and the other, if also a believer, would trace a corresponding arc creating a "fish" (ixthus which was an acronym for: Jesus Christ God's Son Savior) as a secret way to share their beliefs without risks of persecution. They had other secret symbols the Romans didn't pick up on as well.
