Yea perhaps but he did ultimately get it and worse. Personally I think supporters and MAGA would have understood if he came out early and just said he didn't feel the VP was meant to have the power to decide an election. I personally would have been dissappointed but thought it was a fair opinion to have. It is a bit of a stretch to assume the VP can just solo choose electors in a grey area so it would have been a fair enough stance.
