With image recognition it can get quite complex. I feel the main thing with these Dominion machines might not be that they collude to cheat but that the complexety of their operation makes it possible for the operators to cheat since observers can't see what is happening.
Politicans and clerks seems to believe the machines counter fraud while they just are dumb counting machines doing what they are told by the operator.
Machines should only be used to double check hand counted votes not doing the real count.
