i feel the same. the lead up to 2016 was the high point for whatever this is now. there was robust discussion, humor, and tons of optimism. it was fun. once it got big, weird factions started to form in the community. it became divisive and unfocused. the discussions were diluted into simple catch phrases or insults. the joy was gone.
it is ridiculous, huh? i think i have seen everyone, except Trump himself, lionized and then demonized here.

i saw her act in a movie and thought she did a good job in the role. i looked her up to see who she was and what else she has been in, only to be grossed out with choice in men.

oh i totally agree. i was making light of the need for people to feel an emotion during an advertisement. ideally an ad would just be the product itself, features, price and maybe where to buy. but since they WANT people to buy it they have to manipulate/hypnotize people into wanting it. for me, i don’t respond to emotional ploys, i respond better to entertainment (cartoon bees), things that are fairly neutral. but yeah, to your point there is definitely room for the sinister when it comes to ads and media in general.
that is pretty much it. the ones at the top know the true motive while the kids in the ad companies are just trying to be hip. also i don’t need to see humans eating cereal to know i would like cereal. just show me a cartoon bee pouring honey on it and the job is done.
