This administration has been remarkably tolerant when it comes to these threats, and the reason why is because if the feds arrested every moron who makes idle threats on a Facebook or Youtube thread, the press and Democrats would scream that it's proof Trump is the authoritarian they claim he is.

There may be some hesitancy to go county-by-county because people obviously travel, but everything north of commuting range from NYC should be back up and running.
Even if there are a few cases in rural counties well north of NYC, they are much less likely to spread because of low population density and no public transportation.
Public transportation really is the main hamstring for NYC. You can’t tell people to commute by car because the infrastructure can’t handle it, but you can’t have millions of people riding Metro North, LIRR and the subways either. A lot of us are going to be working from home for the foreseeable future.

My state (New York) just extended lockdown for another month.
I am not opposed to that for New York City, Long Island and Westchester, where I live, as we have some 13 million people in a small area, millions of commuters, and a public transportation system that is always packing people in like sardines.
If you’ve ever been on the subway or Metro North during rush hour, you’ll know what I mean. It’s exactly like Tokyo, people are elbow to elbow.
Operating as normal would be a major catastrophe simply because there’s no way for people to get to work without being packed into tiny areas with thousands of others.
However, from the mid Hudson Valley and anything north/west of there, it’s like a completely different state — lots of rural communities, farmland, industry, small cities, college towns, etc.
Those parts of the state have low infection numbers and absolutely can return to work. In those areas there is no public transportation, people drive everywhere, and the population density is extremely low.
So even within states, a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work. There are basically two New Yorks — upstate and downstate — just like a state like Virginia has high population density the closer you get toward DC, but very low density in other places. I hope our governors are smart enough to look at things on a county-by-county basis.
I agree, context and intent matter. I’m just saying we’ve gone from the days when people were respectful of the office of the president, and would never make remarks threatening him, to a situation where threatening the president is a way liberals establish their bonafides.
