I think that's a big reason why millennials are the way they are. Most of their parents never passed on the age-old knowledge their parents taught them. It's rare to find someone under the age of 30 who knows how to sew or do basic handy work.
That's why it's so important to make kids learn things like that when they're young. I almost never sew but everything I do know I had to have learned when I was about 5. Russian women learn young from their mothers and grandmas and passing it on is really important to them.
Russian women can make anything by hand. I knew a woman from Russia and everything in her house was handmade by her or her friends/family or over a hundred years old. Back in the Soviet Union there was no guarantee you could get something you need so people had to make it themselves. In America we could buy anything from the store so craftsmanship dropped to where we are today.
Most vintage fabrics come from either repurposed clothing (like an old beat up wedding dress) or from warehouses overseas. Russia has a long tradition of fabric making and from what I understand they haven't changed much. Asia too and places like India and Iran. A lot of "American" fabrics are made in sweatshops these days and quantity is put over quality. That's why there's such a big difference.
Huh interesting. My sister has a fabric store and she says people are always asking for vintage fabric. It goes for a pretty penny too. I know how to sew but I'm not very good at it and I never had a daughter unfortunately. You're right about the unisex look. Girl's clothes are just boys clothes but with half the fabric these days.
Yes it's a shame really. I see some of the high school girls waiting on the bus stop these days and they look like strippers even though it's winter. Sad to see really.
True. I feel like a lot of those women would look totally undone without makeup on, while a more modest lady would still look fine.
That's nice. A pretty natural lady will grab attention that's for sure. I think it also has a lot to do with how we dress. Wearing sweatpants and a t shirt I look a bum without makeup lol. Ladies back in the day always tried to look presentable but these days makeup is kind of a crutch to make athletic wear look more presentable.
That's interesting. These days it seems like makeup is something most women feel naked without. I don't look horrible without makeup but I don't quite look the way I usually do. It feels like going in public without shoes on for me lol. But that's just the way some of us are conditioned.
How would your mom feel suddenly having no makeup whatsoever back in the day? My mother would have worn a bag over her head lol. Even though she was quite the natural beauty.
True. Makeup has been a big part of women's lives for years now. Imagine if this happened in the 1950s?
My eyebrows look kinda like the bottom right lady. Blondes won't have it easy :/
And made her naked lol
She's a feminist that believes women exist and are different from men.
He is still male. Being conservative doesn't instantly turn men into women.
The chemicals that go into makeup are also used in medical supplies, so it's going to that first. They come from overseas and supply issues are so bad, they're predicting a total shortage until about mid 2023.
It's going to be almost impossible to buy makeup for a whole year because of the supply shortages.
Hair dye is certainly going away if makeup is too. I honestly feel bad for most women who have to go through this. I'll look super plain and a little undone but still myself. We might all have a hard time recognizing people for a while.
This is Kayleigh and her daughter
I don't know what to say. The people in charge are evil.
What would she be most miffed about you think?
I can't tell if you're trolling lol. Are you a man?
Huh. I guess this picture makes more sense then...
Kayleigh the press secretary?
Triggered much? We're all in the same boat here.
