This election is much the same. The war was dragging on, McClellan was the darling of the press. Lincoln was attacked mercilessly and was told he had no chance for reelection. I believe Lincoln as one of the greatest presidents ever. I also believe suspending habeas corpus and jailing reporters should be soundly criticized and taught in schools. The sending former slaves back to Africa (I thought it was Central America?) he thought that they would encounter untold hardships after the war. He was correct.
