I think it is fair for a leader to hold responsibility like this, but this statement doesn't sound like Ted is abandoning Trump. Listen, if everyone was as honest as Ted right now, Pelosi, Maxine, ect... would all have been shunned for their responsibility in this years turmoil. Trump did not incite any violence. However, he did a bad job of saying what needed to be said to quell it. I'm with Trump all the way, but we have to be better than the oppressive hypocrites in Washington (dem or rep). Trump is the best president we have ever had in my book. I think he was as angry as us and I don't think I would have the clarity of mind to choose better words on the 6th than he did. He's human.
