AnCaps hate Trump too.
I say essay, but maybe a paragraph would be more realistic of what happens.
It's not a bad thing to write in math class or other classes. Think of it like keeping a journal - it's useful, even if the purpose isn't to practice your writing skills.
The problem isn't the writing, the problem is the one sided presentation of information. For instance, students will learn about different social justice issues, but they will never learn of issues of liberty and encroaching authoritarianism on our freedom.
I think a project I saw in the hallway summarizes this idea up well. I was in an elementary school, and a fourth grade class had work proudly displayed on the wall. The project was about the role of government. Each person needed to write three functions of government, and then illustrate it.
Each student basically picked 3 functions of government that were the result of government spending, not the role. For isntance: The government funds hospitals. The government builds roads. The government funds schools. The government gives money to the needy. Every function listed was not a function of government, but rather, a function of government spending.
There were no "a function of government is to protect it's people. A function of government is to keep us safe from foreign invaders. A function of government is to facilitate business. A function of government is to protect our rights"
It's really not so bad that the kids write in math class. It's abhorrent that they get a barrage of one sided issues.
This isn't a joke. I'm a teacher in public schools. Let me give you an insight into the curriculum of racism.
After I make this post I'll go hunt down the source, but I'll share something from my teacher training program that I had to go through when I got into my most recent school.
We all know what radius are. The distance from the midpoint of a circle to the edge with a straight line. We all know that understanding the concept of radius and diameter to be important, and likely a middle school concept. Well, the problem is that kids don't relate to these abstract math problems, so let's insert.... REAL LIFE!
Surely you've heard of food deserts? A food desert has multiple definitions, but let's talk about the urban definition. A food desert in an urban setting is specifically a low income area that is more than 1 mile from a grocery store that offers fresh produce. Don't care if you're democrat or republican, but people not having access to fresh food isn't a good thing. More on the why later.
So now, instead of measuring say, a plate to understand radius, now students must incorporate social justice into their math lessons. Using a map and the definition of a food desert, can you determine which neighborhoods are in range of a grocery to not be considered a food desert? Can you color in areas outside of the range to show where the food desert is? Can you write an essay describing what you think lawmakers should do to get rid of food deserts?
Or another example: there are three parks in our community that need cleaning up. Let's determine the biggest park by learning length times width = area, and then go on a field trip to pick the trash up.
Now I'll be honest, this isn't so bad. I think kids understanding the world around them isn't a bad thing. BUT it never goes in the opposite direction. For instance, the food desert example. You'll never see, say a statistics problem saying something to this effect: "Area A makes a millions in revenue each year, and Area B makes B millions in revenue each year. Area A has x incidence of crime, while Area B has y incidence of crime, and each incidence of crime on average costs the grocery store z dollars. Where do you recommend the grocery store to open?" I'm not a math teacher btw, so forgive me, but I hope you get the general idea.
Tack that onto enforced white privledge training, and the concept of "democracy in the classroom" which is actually legit marxism. It took me listening to the marxist Richard Wolff to actually make that connection, because lefists are so good at using language to disguise their motives.
This shit sucks.
The thing I find so hilarious is the Democrats sudden concern with Trump's health and well being.
Let's make this a thing. give r/battlestations some competition
Probably because Michelle Obama is VP.
TEN FEET TALLER
IT's already happening. #1 post on r/politics.
C'mon Tim, eat that fucking redpill
post modern art is bullshit
Imma go full stupid here. I am a teacher, so I see this shit happening right in front of me.
It's rather reductionist, but if you think about what the purpose of a public school education is, then they are actually achieving the desired results with this work.
Just as an example. The hot new buzzword in education right now is Social-Emotional Learning, or SEL. It's trying to raise kids to be more aware of their emotions and how to show empathy, establish relationships, so on so forth.
This wouldn't be problem if public education shifted it's philosophic center. But the colleges and school administration are invested in this idea of "Democracy in the classroom", which sound good because, hey, democracy, but it's actually practicing the ideas of political socialism in the classroom. There is no way schools will be able to teach SEL respectfully of parents choices. So hope this shit as well as covid completely destroy public schools because they are rotten institutions. And I work for one!
