I'm in Texas. Houston area. This area stays green year round, weather like this has never happened in my lifetime. Our extreme season occurs in the Summers, for which we are well prepared.
Today, ponds, lakes, swimming pools (In Houston!) are frozen over. Ice on roads, no power (no warning of planned outages), temps in the teens, no internet, no TV, no phone service, no texting for days...totally in the dark. Had to fish out some old yellow Sports Walkmans from the 1980's to hear what's going on locally on the radio, however none of the radio stations were covering this emergency event. None (except maybe Spanish language radio)! Just regular morning yuck yuck talk shows and discussion about JJ Watt. What the hell? Grocery stores closed, everything closed.
This shouldn't happen here, we use much more electricity in the Summers, the capacity is there. ERCOT deliberately screwed us and dheads need to roll.
This entire experience does have a silver lining though. It has exposed holes in my prepping (Need more firewood, 4-wheel, all-wheel drive, etc) and has the entire state focused on the commie, Democrat, shitheads who run ERCOT like it was ENRON.
Texas is geared for hot weather and ERCOT should easily have been able to handle this load. ERCOT manages the Texas energy grid and it looks like they're run by Democrats if you look into the backgrounds of their board members.
In fact, 5 of the board members, including the chair (lives in Michigan, connected to Witchmer) doesn't even live in Texas. WTF? How does that happen? More to come out on this....
