The legislative bill doesn’t have the Aztec chanting language. It just slowly adds “ethnic studies” to the school curriculum—required to be offered by 2026; required to graduate by 2030—adds some definitions to avoid being blatantly unconstitutional, and authorizes who can decide what counts as an “ethnic studies” course.
Almost separately, the State Board of Education is updating the curriculum of ethnic studies courses that may already be offered. Some of the sample instructional materials include the Aztec chants.
