A famous Scottish economist named John Law, who ran the French economy in the 1700s, observed how people were comfortable using gold as a currency because of the trust they put into it. He then went on to created the world's first stock market bubble by convincing lots of people in France to put their life savings into buying shares of the Mississippi Company, which was the French version of the Dutch East India company.

It didn't turn out well...

Not trying to make an ad hominem argument here, but the kind of people who put too much stock in "trusting" a currency are generally the types of people who work for Central Banks convincing an unsuspecting public that inflation is a-okay!

I put trust into a currencies that can't be inflated to the moon. Yes, I realize bitcoin has a hard limit on the number of those tokens that can ever be "mined", but I consider this to be an imitation of another currency that has that feature: gold.

Well, leave it to real libertarians to keep the train rolling (not open-borders lolibritarians, mind you)!

Bitcoin doesn't have any intrinsic value, just like fiat currencies. What do you do without electricity? Your computer has a little bit of gold and silver inside already ;) Gold at least serves as a useful physical commodity.

Waiting on .win communities by state level! Ready to meet up with those ready to jump into local races. We need to start small like the prohibition movement did.

Not interested in wasting my time with GOP or the Dem parties. Participated in both their events before and the establishment candidates always won endorsements, surprise, surprise..

Meh, I understand how you feel. Tried to watch faux news in early 2018, but it all felt like stupid crap that wasn't real news ("OMG! S&P 500 index down by 50 points today! Oh the humanity!") or Laura Ingrahm talking in a know-it-all tone about how bad liberals and democrats are.

Go and seek out some real news to share, instead of reporting what I already know. I thought Faux news was a waste of time then too. Lou Dobbs was ok, but repetitive.

Gold is all things: a medium of exchange, a store of value, fungible, a unit of account, durable, portable, divisible and limited in supply

I never liked Faux News. They supported the Iraq War, which was only created out of thin air to help the oligarchs of America make money and punish Saddam for ever considering selling his country's oil in Euros, which would have weakened the value of our worthless paper dollars.

They supported George W Bush 100%. I never trusted them completely and feel completely vindicated for never trusting them while they hesitantly pretended to be all ra ra for Trump until election night.

We can't run from the government forever. We have to realize it's possible to live in a world with less government and rely on ourselves. Share that lesson with your children too.

Check it out! Remember there are lots of credit unions probably open in your area that you meet eligibility requirements for. Just do your research.

https://mapping.ncua.gov/ResearchCreditUnion.aspx

Also check out depositaccounts.com to see what kind of accounts the credit union you're considering offers (e.g. high-interest checking)

You can always join a credit union whose field of membership allows for people from anyone in the country to join. The most open ones just ask for a small donation to become a member of an affiliated non-profit of charity of theirs before joining their credit union.

Heck you could always transact in person using small amounts of gold or silver too for bartering purposes. Cash too.

It all depends on far off the reservation you want to go.

If there were a gold-back cryptocurrency, I would love to play around with that, but governments would shut that down so fast, it would make your head spin, lol

I keep telling people to switch to credit unions here all the time! Would love to see another movement spring up again before another major recession.

If you're a dedicated saver, two big ones I can recommend with high-interest, rewards checking accounts are:

Lake Michigan Credit Union. Their max checking account pays 3% interest annually up to $15,000

Evansville Teachers Credit Union. Their vertical checking account pays 3.3% interest annually up to $20,000

You have to do a lot of transactions with both of them, but you can easily meet the requirements by spending $0.50 on gift card balance reloads on Amazon. Or if you're like me, you can buy tiny amounts of gasoline at the pump ;)

Most credit unions that can accept anyone nationwide without meeting one of their existing field of membership requirements is to make a small donation to a charity or non-profit they support. Usually the donation is more than offset by the interest you receive the first month if you have a lot squirreled away.

If you like being a customer at your local bank, that's fine.

Keep in mind that ownership can easily merge the bank or sell it to another bigger bank ready to gobble them up. Quality of customer service can easily go down after that...

At a credit union, you get to vote on mergers with other credit unions. You're not just a customer at a credit union, you're a member too.

Fred Upton is a total shill. He's votes for all sorts of bad bills such as HR 1044 in 2019

Nunes, Jordan and gaetz voted for HR 1044 back in 2019 "Fairness for High-skilled Immigrants Act". Josh Hawley didn't oppose the bill in the senate when a SINGLE senator could have voiced an objection to stop the bill.

It's a bill that helps Indians who are waiting for green cards get them faster. Keep in mind a lot of them came in on H-1Bs to replace American IT jobs...

Just get rid of all the DC congressmen and let's start from scratch and really vet people...

I closed a credit card line that I had with the bank that I quit when I switched to a credit union. I did not even notice any kind of dip in my overall credit score.

If you have a good credit history built up by paying off your credit cards on time, it really won’t matter if you close an account.

+1 for credit unions! Tell all your friends about ’em!

Switch to a credit union!

They offer a much better service, much better interest rates and you’re not simply a customer there, we’re also a member with voting rights.

Remember to switch to a credit union!

Credit union, you’re not a “customer“, you are a member. You have voting rights and a say and how they operate

Wall Street banks financed the socialist revolutions in Russia, and the rise of Adolf Hitler and created the federal reserve to give them selves a private monopoly on printing money. They are evil and should be boycotted!

Remember, switch to a credit union!

If you want to find credit unions that accept members from anywhere in the United States, consider looking into Lake Michigan credit Union or Evansville teachers credit Union. Both credit unions will pay you at least 3% in a high interest checking account. Let’s see how many banks can match that?
