I agree completely, Fren. I earned my stripes in the industry, and not having that piece of paper was a struggle in 2017 when Oracle had two major RIFs. They killed my entire division. Ended up better off, but the job hunt wasn't fun.
I wanted to be a cop when I was young. Got bored in high school (1980s) and had a knack for electronics and programming. Joined the Navy and did my time. Got out and realized that money was more important. Hated college and decided to teach myself engineering. It's been a good run so far. I'm working cutting edge technology daily and loving it. I help people, generally it's local elderly with things like yard work, snow removal, some bills. Shit like that. I think it's more helpful than anything I could have done as a cop. I got both...the helping and the financial stability. Not bad for a yahoo who grew up dirt poor, and doesn't have a degree. 👍🏻
