Regarding Rand Paul, we should bear in mind that he and McConnell are both Kentucky Senators, and their political machinations go all the way back to the 2010 Senate election primary, where Tea Party candidate Paul defeated McConnell’s pick (Grayson).
Once the Turtle sniffed the grassroots rightward turn in the air, he suddenly became Paul’s best friend. At a town hall meeting (after Rand’s primary victory) McConnell got an uncomfortable earful of the grassroots enthusiasm of the Tea Party, and decided he was going to play the Tea Party’s best friend, as well. "We are here today to send a clear and unmistakable message to every Republican in Kentucky that we are going to elect Dr. Rand Paul to the United States Senate.” With the help of McConnell’s well-oiled political machine, Rand won his Senate seat handily.
Paul now owed McConnell. When 2014 came around and McConnell was up for re-election, he faced his own Tea Party challenger, and—guess what?—grassroots Paul threw his support behind McConnell, and threw his fellow Tea Party member under the bus.
McConnell quickly recovered from his bout of faux-populism. Just before going on to win re-election, he bragged to the NYT that he was going to crush the Tea Party everywhere. He’s been trying to do that ever since--but GEOTUS keeps getting in the way. Mitch is, and has always been, the Friend of Mitch and the Enemy of the People.

Paul is a politician, not a statesman. He is NOT entirely trustworthy, and if he takes a stand for Trump at all, it will only be because of OUR pressure. I’ve sent him an email in which I said, “In your speeches you always say the right thing; now is the time to DO the right thing.” I assume thousands more Pedes are bombarding him. We need to keep it up. Remind him that we’re the kind of people who put him office in the first place and tell him to stop being a pussy—or to think twice if he’s considering a career as just another swamp rat.

Think of what happened to him at that 2010 town hall—the unsettling up-close noise of Paul’s Tea Party supporters: he experienced a bit of animal fear. Imagine that noise magnified several orders of magnitude, when not hundreds but millions surround Congress and yell outside his house. We CAN put the fear of We the People in this motherfucker. If ordinary citizens like us know that the Constitution and our country will die if they steal the election, you can bet Trump knows. And he's the one who took an oath to uphold the Constitution and defend our country from enemies foreign and domestic. The BIIIIIIG question is, will he try to keep that oath, with all the drastic measures that implies? Another big question: will the military back him? How much can a citizen militia do if the Armed Services don't back them up?
I keep seeing this kind of cognitive breakdown here as well. It's like their brains just shut down when confronted with the harsh reality. They'll say, The Election was rigged! And with the next breath it's: We'll get 'em next time!
