Imagine there is UBI at $1000 per adult. This is of course tax-payer funded, and maybe (although I doubt it), only the rich will pay for it.
Now imagine it is an election year. Candidate one wants to keep UBI at $1000. Candidate two sees an opportunity to win by supporting a UBI increase to $1500. How to pay for it? Who cares! It’s an extra 500 for me, right?
Rinse/repeat every election until UBI has increased several times. The rich see the writing on the wall and leave, and the middle class is carrying the burden of UBI. Eventually even the middle class will realize that working isn’t worth it, and stop working, pushing the burden even further down the line. At this point the government will need to take action to mandate critical work still be done, and that is a short jump to communism.

I do know one. Early 70's, no comorbidities that I know of. He, his wife, and his son all came down with covid around the same time. The son got by pretty easy. The wife was much worse off for a while, but she recovered. The husband looked like he was going to fight it off, then he got worse and passed away within a couple of days. Very sad. That's the only one I have known personally.
