I was a Democrat through Obama’s first election. It all changed in pharmacy school when I started interacting with all the people on the social programs I used to champion. So many were hateful selfish fuck ups that came in with the most entitled attitudes. One specific example turned me forever... Within about a minute, 2 people came in. The first was some young ish dude on a government paid insurance plan and picked up a pile of drugs for almost free, including opioids and amphetamines. He had a shitty entitled attitude and bitched about not getting the generic brand of oxycodone he wanted (for sure because of resale value). Next, some working class dude came in who you could tell just got off a hard shift. He has a pile of meds to pick up for him and 2 of his daughters. The copay was about 60 or 70 bucks, which it turned out he didn’t have. I wish we could do charity for guys like this but we really couldn’t. He ended up only picking up his daughters meds and leaving his blood pressure and cholesterol prescriptions, and was polite and understanding through the whole process. It broke my heart, and I’ve never forgotten it. That was the last time I ever talked about the government taxing the rich and giving to the poor. I truly believe in helping my fellow man, but the government is not the way. I’m so thankful for Trump and his willingness to fight the power and sacrifice his wealth and position that it beings a tear to my eye. Liberty or die!
