If Fauci is wrong there had better be consequences commensurate to the damage wrought on our republic.

As long as docs are prescribing it and using it, I really don’t care what Fauci thinks.

The model has vastly overpredicting hospitalizations. It was supposed to already be taking into account current social distancing but was giving number for hospitalizations 4 or more times what were being observed.

So now they will revise the shit out of it to fit current reality and say that hey it’s from social distancing.

That said, continue to follow Trump admin and local advice. But we may be seeing the model being ratcheted back down to reality.

So... your suggestion is that Trump is lying to us, and instead of the being the blunt and honest speaker we have experienced over the last 4 years he is actually deceiving us?

I think your suspicion meter is cranked up maybe one rachet too far. I don’t think Trump has it in him to mislead the American people in this way.

Hospitalizations don’t seem to match model predictions (actual much less than models from 1 week ago).

Hopefully that means the models are harshly too pessimistic. We’ll know soon.

I thought the worst case scenario was 2.2 million deaths. 200k is in the best case scenario range, is all this distancing is effective.

So, just a question. Your graph Above looks a lot like the entire USA graph. Somebody floated the text “New York” there but model shows a similar date and number of deaths as the peak for the entire USA (2644 deaths on April 16th).

Here is the link for the USA graph (scroll down):

https://covid19.healthdata.org/projections

Are you sure this is not a situation of someone floating the name “New York” as text over the actual graph of the entire USA?

Edit: the graph you are using above is the exact same as the entire USA graph, and it has not changed. Every little jig and jag of the curve is identical. Somebody put the work “New York” on it as a hoax. You can tell it is in a different font and uses photoshop style shadowing not present on the actual model graphs. This is a hoax.

Agreed. They should not be able to silence you in a comment chain by blocking you, but that is how it currently works.

They make a pissy point then block you and you are locked out of being able to respond in the same thread. That’s going to be hugely abused.

Why don’t you look in the mirror, Mr. Schiff? The house controls the purse and you and your team control the house. If leaders failed to prepare, THAT IMPLICATES YOU.

I’m so sorry. Apply right away for unemployment for help with the bills. This is not a matter of fault, just a crap sandwich of a time, but I do think that after this is behind us it will pick back up quick due to pent up demand.

The Lindsay clan of Scotland have a motto, “endure fort” - endure with strength. This time will pass.

I’d encourage people to wear masks in public where they might be close to each other, such as in the grocery by the checkout line.

It will only help.

Obviously an N95 protects you more than a basic non-sealing surgical mask. But both help prevent people from spreading germs while asymptomatic, as long as you don’t touch your face and try not to touch the outside of the mask.

I’ll be wearing one in public where I might have to be close to others, and when I see all patients.

Check through your painting or woodworking supplies, many of the masks you buy for sanding etc are N95s. If the box is open you can’t donate them but you can sure use them yourself.

Also you can bake a mask at 160 degrees (F) in the oven for 30 min to sterilize it according to a Stanford study.

FWIW.

Okay.

Just check out the obituaries of the newspapers in affected areas once this wave crests.

Maybe when you see the write ups by grieving family members and see that the obituary segments of the paper are overflowing you will recognize that this is not falsified data. Maybe when you see tributes to all the vets, working Americans, and innocents you will think twice.

But hey, maybe the Chinese are hiring a bunch of creative writers to write fake obituaries. Yeah, of course! That’s all. Just like in Italy where the obituary sections of the paper grew 5-10x their normal volume.

We have a couple dozen cases only. It doesn’t feel busy because all the other patients who don’t absolutely require care are staying away from the hospitals. Many docs such as surgeons are crash training with ED and critical care docs to be able to help when the wave crests.

On the other hand, my state is one of the least affected by COVID so far.

My brother in Philly is seeing a different story. Their cases are accelerating faster. They have been on the verge of running out of PPE multiple times even with conservation efforts, although now have about a week’s worth. They are basically setting up a war zone scenario where every lobby in the hospital has been outfitted with beds.

I can’t say whether the models are right. We won’t know until it spikes. All we can do is prepare as best we can.

Just to make sure: you are suggesting that the deaths occurring are made up, by a conspiracy of hundreds of thousands of doctors, nurses, EMS, and hospital personnel for... what, exactly? To work our asses off while nobody else has to?

Global warming is all based on models that are clearly REFUTED by empirical observations and measurements.

These deaths are not. So far we are climbing up a death curve that looks fairly similar to predictions. 1,000 fellow Americans died yesterday from it. The deaths are accelerating. It’s a shitty thing but we can fight it best by not spreading it, just as president Trump and VP Pence have explained over and over again each night.

This is why it is nearly impossible to have an effective quarantine in a free society.

It only takes a couple of weeks for the cracks to show.

Even Trump supporters here on Td.win are turning on the president and criticizing his decisions.

Everybody starts to argue in their own best interest. “I need to get back to work.” “F the people with obesity, they were going to die anyway.” “The doctors are falsifying death certificates to pump up the numbers and make money.” “It’s just a cold!” Etc. These are getting upvoted here on thedonald.

Eventually there will be social unrest, outright defiance, and possibly even armed confrontations.

And the Chinese win.

Our disunity is our problem. Our inability to just follow the man we said we trusted, when time comes to actually make any real sacrifice for others. Forget going off to fight in a war, all we are being asked to do is chill at home for a while. And we can’t even do that.

I hope you are right. I’m in the middle of it as a doc and I have elderly family members in my home. Nothing would please me more than to see this all blow over. Time will tell and until then we will endure.

There are other forums to express your disagreement with the president.

Nobody says you have to agree with him. Many don’t. And they have welcoming spaces for critics all over the Internet.

T_D is a place to support the president. It is a 24/7 Rally in support of the president. Trump’s enemies, domestic and foreign, are thrilled when people disagree with him and wish to encourage it.

Here we have one place, just ONE place, where supporters can gather and not hear shit about how Trump sux, orange man bad, etc.

And what are people posting here? Trump’s wrong, this is all made up, concern concern concern. When people bring their low energy disagreements with the president here it poisons the site.

R/politics is full of critics who will upvote and welcome those who express disagreement with the president. It may be a good place for those who wish to complain. Just sayin.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

Scroll down to “Total Coronavirus Deaths in the United States.

Does that graph look like it has peaked to you?

That is empirical data, not a projection.

We’ll see how São Paulo and Rio do over the next 2 months. Those will be a good model for how our own cities would have fared, assuming the numbers are accurate from Brazil. I am curious even though I think Trump is right.

If there are dead in the streets there then we will have our answer. I’m sure the many people posting how this is just a cold will disappear into the woodwork.
