I think it is smart. An accusation like molestation has grave consequences and due diligence should be done. It needs to stay in the chan's until proper evidence or verification is released.

There are only three possible ways someone could have read his messages.

1. iCloud account hacked. Easy to verify.

2. Message transmission was intercepted somehow and attacker was able to break Apple's encryption (CIA)

3. Someone was watching their screen. Either through hidden cameras or screen recording software.

This is imessage, supposed to be end to end encrypted.

Apple has some explaining to do.
