The impeachment trial isn't a criminal trial. It's just to remove a sitting president so he can be charged for a crime. The actual criminal trial would come after. But since he's now a private citizen they could just try him in a civil court (he gets sued by the officers family for wrongful death) or a criminal court for "reasons" .
No. I like the idea but in reality we'd give Dems 2 years of overwhelming power. Enough to amend the Constitution. That'd fuck us until the shooting starts. But look at it this way. 44 out of 50 supported Trump. What we need to do is kick that 12% that dissented out of the party.
Republican party has always had factions. As the parties base has moved to a centrist-conservative belief system in the majority of the country, the leadership from the NE has gotten more liberal. I expect most of those 6 to switch parties after the trial.
Honestly, I am swinging to the idea of getting all this nonsense out of the way. Democrats want to keep Trump in the news as a bogeyman to keep attention off what they are doing. As much as I love the guy, I want him to get exonerated and off the news for a couple of years so people can see the shitshow this Dem Admin is without distraction.
