Our hospital is nearing 3 digit #s of people with respiratory distress from COVID. Usually we just have 5-10 from influenza at the height of flu season.
You can thin slice the data however u want but it's crazy to say this is the same as the flu - we can adjust but it's definitely straining our hospital system in ways that I haven't seen in my 5 yrs working here
Nobody should be paid less because it's a calling that's commie talk
People should be paid what the market dictates. Private school helps in part to set public teacher salaries (since if there was a large disparity public teachers would leave en mass to private schools).
This is the problem with public funding, people fuck with your salary because of "calling" and other BS
I mean we should be careful with coronavirus but yeah there's tons of other unhealthy things we do that nobody talks about... Lack of exercise, obesity, smoking, etc
Most of what I treat in the hospital is in some way related to decisions the patient made. We all try to not be judgy so this isn't talked about often
Even the traumas - for fucks sake I took care of someone the other day who crashed his motorcycle for the second time in two months. Bruh - maybe it's time to sell the bike ?
It prolongs repolarization of the heart, prolonging the QT interval. If the next heart beats happenings while the heart is still repolarizing this is considered an R on T phenomenon and leads to torsades de point and cardiac arrest.
It doesn't happen often, most are fine, but given that we are talking about sudden cardiac death, this is not a benign issue.
Some have underlying heart disease or take other meds that can be additive
You can also track this with an EKG, if repoladizafion is brjsk enough then there's no issues (qt interval )
I know a few people that have died from this but know nobody who has died from influenza. Our hospital has had 24 deaths from this and usually has 1-2 from influenza by this time. I think it's about 5x worse than influenza. Definatley not worth all the measures taken. But to say it's no different than the flu is hyperbole
Your explanation makes a lot of sense and is probably the most likely scenario
When I read it the first thing that crossed my mind was corruption - somebody high up in USPS is getting a kickback to sell to Amazon for a loss
I'm a surgery resident. I graduated top of my class in a top 20 college at age 21, and I'll finish all my training at age 37. For many years I raked in debt, and when I wasn't taking in debt, then 50-70k a year raising a family of 3 kids.
I keep in touch with my friends from college - if they didn't pursue training then they were making nearly 6 figures when done, and easily climbed to 100k-200k for the 16 years while I trained.
I'll probably make 500k when I'm done. It'll be a nice reward. But I calculated I'll be 51 before I even out with my friends that started working right after college.
If you think doctors go into this profession to make money, we are either incredibly stupid at making money, or we aren't doing this to make money.
You can also see why people like Bernie that say doctors earn too much are infuriating
Edited to also add... Those training years are lost, you work 80+ hours a week, thankfully I have a supportive wife but you don't get them back
He's trying to earn bonus points on earth and isn't spending time bringing his flock to Christ
Just another reason or maybe part of the reason to find another church
