I'm mostly opposed to the death penalty but I think exceptions should be made for rich and powerful people. Once you have enough influence there is no guarantee that the punishment sticks or you aren't directing things from within your prison cell.
Some random thug who committed a horrible rape and murder can just suffer in prison for life. Not getting out anyway and poses no real harm to society. If an FBI/CIA director go to prison they are literally just being placed in special protection programs with their friends and will probably get out when the politics favor them.
