This 100%. Universities have a bottomless piggybank of taxpayer dollars for income; they've been able to jack prices up to obscene levels and once they get paid that's it. Finding a job and settling that debt isn't their problem.
Kids are paying $10k a semester for an education that's basically, "buy or rent these books and read em on your own." Competition between universities to have the best research and education is dead when they have an unlimited lifeline of government money to rely on.
You see it in healthcare too. When I worked in private EMS we'd buy IV bags of saline for under $10 and bill it at $100, because Medicare and Medicaid would pay it. It's not a necessary markup; the bill for just transporting that person already covered costs and was profitable. They just did it because they could.
So a civilian, who has never worked in fire/police/EMS in his life, is telling New York responders to skip 9/11. Yeah, that should go over well.
