Greetings from Canada!
I read somewhere that if your election is still contested for whatever reason by December 8th (allegations of fraud, re-counts, neither party concedes), you Americans go into safe harbor law territory.
Citizen votes are entirely thrown out - as if the election never happened - and just 1 representative votes per state on the presidency.
By law, a republican rep must vote for Trump and a democrat rep must vote for Biden. Republicans hold the majority so it's 27-24 or 27-22 for Trump.
Is this the point of the lawsuits? Not to expose fraud (although it'll accomplish that too), but to delay things until Americans blow past December 8th deadline and essentially guarantee a Trump win because of a law created in the late 1800s?
The Atlantic seems particularly scared about this scenario and the first half of the article has now already happened.
