Sociopaths don't have a conscience and they don't feel regret.
But they're making a specific claim. They are saying it's on the earliest date in 1200 years. I agree you can get a "general idea" but that's not their claim.
The Left gets called out on hypocrisy constantly. They don't care. They don't even understand the accusation. They are not committed to being logically consistent. They are committed to emotional supremacy and to pushing their agenda, no matter the cost. They are committed to turning the Right's rules against the Right, but make no claims of holding themselves to the same standard.
The Left is composed of people who feel anxious and threatened by the world. They hate unpredictability. They hate other people disagreeing with them. They find solace and comfort in groups, and constantly look to others for acceptance and for guidance on what they should do or think. They cannot stand feeling alone, and do anything they can to be accepted by their "in-group". All of their words and actions are meant as signals to other "in-group" members that they are not a threat and that they will work for the benefit of the "in-group". And they gain further credit with the in-group by attacking, villifying, and nullifying the "out-group".
They don't care at all about being logical, nor about being consistent, especially over time. They care about feeling safe, making other people in the group notice that they are safe and non-threatening, and on destroying anyone not in their group.
Stop wasting your time expecting Leftists to operate on your playing field. They have successfully moved you onto their playing field, and they're crushing you into smaller and smaller corners.
I think it's for both the reasons you listed, and an additional reason: planting false memories and setting up structures in your mind for future programming. Gotta set up "hooks" for the later threads to grasp onto and turn into the ropes of your capture.
Communists took power in China because of the inaction and sabotage of certain members of FDR's administration. Chinese Nationalists had take Beijing and were expecting promised resupply from the US. Those administration members delayed some shipments and misdirected other shipments. The Communists were being supplied by Russia and were able to re-take Beijing, and the rest of China. The Nationalists fled and went to Taiwan.
So yeah, this story arc goes WAY back.

The idea that you know what day something happened 1200 years ago is absurd. Calendars are nowhere near that consistent. They would move the first day of the year depending whether they could see the moon, for example. The claim is absurd.
They don't go to sports games for the ticket holders. But you can be damn sure that a large number of "voters" in the elections have never actually voted themselves. Those ballots are filled out for them and cast, even post-humously.
If you consider reality to be completely subjective and meaningless, everything is on the table, and meaninglessness leads to anxiety, hysteria, and the search for moral high ground.
