I had to cancel my trip this year. Literally the only time I get to see my mother. All of us have businesses so we always work. Anyway, they are all caught up in the masks as if they work. Aunt asked everyone to take a test, as if the 15 minute test is available in a moments notice to anyone and on thanksgiving morning. Mom’s doctor decides to slip in the, “well, ya shouldn’t go to thanksgiving this year.” This woman still works 6 days a week at her art gallery. Like, what a fucking joke! Give up the best parts of life, but cling to the worst.
After all that, she tried to blame me for not wanting to get tested (if I’m not ill) and not wear a mask that doesn’t work. I played into the hysteria and claimed I would have to rent a car instead of her picking me up at the airport, stay in a hotel the first night, get a test, go straight to her house without stopping if it was negative, stay quarantined at her house while she goes to work all week and then leave her behind to go to thanksgiving dinner, get another test after dinner and then finally return all to suggest I’m afraid of getting her sick. Unfortunately, she really didn’t see the angle I was taking and said, “if you’re afraid of the test just postpone the trip for a few months.” I couldn’t resist and said, “Test or no test if I get you sick I’d be mortified. There’s a 0.0% chance and that’s just way too high.”
Bottom line for me, I’m not going to play into the unwarranted fear and hysteria, I’m not wearing the muzzle and I certainly won’t risk being quarantined in another state for 10 days or whatever if I get a false positive test result. Months ago I mentioned that the family had better not start this precedent or it would be permanent. There is never a time when a virus or bacteria isn’t in the air. The fact that they think power hungry representatives will ever give up their newfound stranglehold is hard to believe. As for my mom, she simply doesn’t understand it could be the last time we see one another if she can’t come to grips with reality.
