This is partly the city of boulder’s fault. They have stopped policing the city and simply aren’t proactive with the huge influx of vagrants. The other aspect, as you mention, is politics is being steeped into every corner of society. It won’t stop until we either have a collective mindset or the state governments Balkanize from federal laws. Even then, the states have politicians that aren’t representing their constituents.

As I said before, Americans who have been here for hundreds of years may feel removed from their original ancestry and incorporate nationality and heritage to consider themselves ethnically American, but the fact remains their genealogical lineage must be taken into account for the most pinpointed definition of the word.
Israel has an immigration policy that relates to genealogy specifically. Thise particular people are always welcome and are delineated with those who simply call themselves Jews based on their religious practice. Don’t lose sight of how this started, just calling yourself a Jew doesn’t mean you’re an ethnic, ashkenazi Jew.
As for the English, British and Scottish ethnicity clarification, those are genealogical lines related to England, the United Kingdom and Scotland respectively. The US was settled by people from those areas with Germanic people (Like my ancestors) not far behind. White Americans, if you go far enough back, have ancestors which came from those areas. If you want to nitpick about the definition of ethnic that’s fine, but you can’t leave out the ancestry as part of what makes up a person’s ethnicity.
