I'm actually pretty okay with any of my "unconventional" friends; life is short, live your best one. Be grateful you live someplace so luxurious and free that you have the privilege to conduct your life as if you were something other than what you are. Nobody should judge you but God.
But.
When it comes to our military, people die. Your brothers-in-arms (regardless of their gender) depend on you, and every minuscule imperfection on your part might mean the difference between them seeing their families again or not. If you are already dealing with the internal struggles of your own mind or body, you are starting from a point of additional hindrance before even factoring in anything else, no matter how sincere your call to duty. This puts you at additional risk, the lives of your troop at additional risk, and the success of any missions you're involved in at additional risk.
This is why it was the right move to ban transgenders from service, and hurt feelings do not change that.
