It has been a fun and expensive year for me (equipment purchases, feed line, antennas, masts). The good thing though is that it typically is a one time expense and it’s your choice of how much you want to spend and how far you want to go.

It is done via zoom, you will need to have a phone with zoom on It as well as your computer. The phone you will use to set up so they can see you while you are doing the test, you will also share your screen in zoom on the computer so they see what you are doing. There are 3 people on the zoom meeting watching you take the test.
I recommend DMR, there are more people talking on it than the other digital voice modes. You can get a hot spot device to link to the internet if there isn’t a DMR repeater you. You typically can use the same hot spot if you don’t have a DMR radio but instead have a D-Star or system fusion radio if you are running pi-star on the hot spot. Tone of videos and literature out there to get you up and running.
I wish we had illegal pubs where i live, but too many liberal cucks here in the PNW to stand up for their freedom. I was thinking of starting a underground speakeasy but it would be impossible to keep it functioning because of the RATS!
Yeah and it will eventually still do it unless you are vigilant. I turned mine off and they will start to pop up on your screen every time you open your phone. And if you aren’t paying attention it will have a countdown timer and will eventually install the update.
I haven’t messed around too much with a lot of the talk groups because where i live there is a large network of DMR repeaters. However, the repeaters only have a limited number of talk groups that they want you to use on them. If you want to use a lot of the brandmeister TG’s they want you to get a hotspot for that so that it doesn’t tie up the repeaters for regular amateur use and emergency communications. I am looking at building a hotspot but want to get non CCP made parts. Might just fork out the $300-400 to buy an American built one from Bridgecom systems.
