Guard does it all the time when they have FTXs or annual training. I did it on active duty a few times in the early 2000s but in the TNARNG we convoyed to camp Shelby MS every year like this. The key though was we convoyed without any ammo, not even blanks.

It’s not uncommon. The real tell is if they have ammo in the weapons because they never travel with live ammo loaded. Look to see if there are ammo belts going into the machine guns.

NG convoys frequently refuel at truck stops. I convoyed from TN to MI multiple times with the TNARNG over several years and we did this every time. It’s actually really common.
