To the outside looking in. It looks to be like wish granting. And maybe there is some overlap. "I pray for a million dollars. I pray for my team to win the football game. I pray for death to my enemies." And so forth and so forth. Of course there are distinguishing factors. Because each person who prays is communicating with God.
Often what you read. You read one pithy line, the wish so to speak, but none of the reflection that leads to that moment. So what often seems as trivial as the example, "I pray for a million dollars" is really a prayer for "I pray for the purpose as granted by million dollars." Money to start a family. Or for school. Or for medical reason and so forth.
Prayer is a deeper dive. An exploration if you will of the absence of God in your life. You pray because you feel something is missing. And that is God. But is it him that is missing? Or yourself that is unable to see God?
