I endeavor to apply what I call the "Jesus rule". His first miracle was to turn water into wine at the behest (reluctantly) of his mother, so the celebration wouldn't be a failure. The wine he made was the best, and the question was raised as to why it wasn't served first, which was traditional. (Numb the taste buds with the good stuff, and then drink the not-so-good).

So if everyone had a serving of the so-called good wine, a serving of a second not-so-good wine, and a serving of Jesus' miracle wine, that's three servings. Jesus would have refused if it was sinful.

The wine had to have enough alcohol to survive without refrigeration, and a man's average weight was much lower back then so as many as 4-6 drinks might be comparable today.

Ecclesiastes 9:7 says eat your bread and drink your wine! But only as a reward for your hard work.
