I’m not that type of Republican. If that style comes back as prevailing then I will vote 3rd party. I can deal with sharing a party with them as long as they don’t try to push their ideology down our throats.

Bigger counties can afford to try death penalty cases, smaller counties cannot afford the extra costs associated with death penalty trials.
On top of that, look at it from percentage of death penalty eligible cases versus the percentage of the time that the prosecution chooses to pursue the death penalty when the defendant is eligible for the death penalty.
Lots of guys will take plea deals for LWOP to avoid the death penalty.
