I look at it this way: it is HARD to get to the top of American politics and government. You have two types, based like Trump and corrupted like (pick any of them). Look at the road Trump has had to navigate, and he has only been in politics for 4-5 years. Not many could manage to stay based and continue to rise. Where there is scandal, there is blackmail. When youre blackmailed, youre useful. Why is it hard to believe that nearly ALL those at the top are corrupted in some way? There are exceptions, and you know who they are by how hard the “media” tries to discredit them.

Reading below, I understand the trafficking angle. However, guns are legal yet still trafficked. Prescription meds, pets, designer handbags, tobacco products, electronics, child adoption...all otherwise legal yet all ALSO trafficked. Making something legal doesnt eliminate trafficking anymore than banning something eliminates the market for it.
I think the question is really on the moral side. At what point do we take individual morality issues and legislate them? Where does that end, and does it ever end “well”? People tend to think abortion when it comes to this question, but that misses the mark as abortion should be known as a human rights issue. Think more along the lines of homosexuality, obscenity, gambling, bigotry, sloth, capital punishment, promscuity...at what point do you start putting the morality of others on trial rather than allowing each to make his/her own decisions and deal woth the consequences?
