I may be dumb, but I still don't get crypto. What is it's value based on other than what the market will pay for it at a given time? It seems as stable as the US dollar from my point of view; there's nothing truly backing either. On the other hand, something like gold and silver are at least backed by gold and silver.

Indeed it is. The FBI actually started to investigate it but I don't believe anyone was ever charged even though they had security footage of the inmates entering his cell. I wonder why that is..
