I dont see how its unclear what libertarians stand for (unless youre referring specifically to the party) They stand for liberty first. Its super easy to tell what a libertarian stands for. If it provides more freedom for the individual they are for it.

Republicans are harder. Under Bush yay war is awesome lets bomb people. Under Trump war is gay pull out. Conservatism has more room for difference in beliefs because its based on maintaining a set of values. Thats why conservatism were against drugs, alcohol, prostitution etc. But other conservatives may not see drugs as a threat to values. They might see going to war as protecting values.
